You can begin your excursion comfortably at the railway station in Prien. From there, step aboard the historic steam railway “LAURA”. The little train travels at a gentle pace. It steams, puffs and whistles as it makes its way down to the harbour at Prien/Stock. The ride itself is already part of the experience and sets the mood for a memorable day by the lake.

If you would like to enjoy magnificent views to the fullest, the Grand Chiemsee Tour in summer is an excellent choice. Our boats first take you to Herreninsel. Here you will find the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Palace, built by King Ludwig II. The island invites you to explore its grand architecture and beautiful surroundings.

The journey then continues to Fraueninsel. This charming island is known for its idyllic fishing village and the Benedictine convent of Frauenwörth. Afterwards the cruise continues towards Seebruck and Chieming. Sit back, relax and take in the sweeping views across the “Bavarian Sea” and the impressive Chiemgau Alps. The scenery unfolds all around you and creates a truly peaceful atmosphere on the water.

UNESCO World Heritage at it's best

In the middle of Lake Chiemsee, on the picturesque island of Herreninsel, stands the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Palace. It was built by Ludwig II of Bavaria and is often described as the Bavarian answer to Palace of Versailles. Visitors are captivated by its lavish state rooms, the glittering Hall of Mirrors and the richly decorated ceilings with elaborate frescoes. Since 2025, Herrenchiemsee Palace has officially been part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. This recognition highlights the outstanding cultural significance of the palace and underlines its importance as one of Bavaria’s most remarkable historical landmarks.

A one-of-a-kind island

Another highlight is Fraueninsel with the historic Frauenwörth Abbey. The island is a charming and almost dreamlike place with a character all of its own. Enjoy the authentic atmosphere of historic rail travel

From 1 May until mid-September, the steam locomotive Laura steam locomotive operates on Saturdays as well as on Sundays and public holidays. Take a seat in the original saloon carriage and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of historic rail travel. During the journey you can experience the impressive hissing and steaming of the locomotive. It is a short trip, yet it feels like travelling back to another time.

During the summer months the ship MS “Edeltraud” regularly sets sail for special events on the lake. These evenings are dedicated to music, dancing and shared celebration. Experience the ecosystem of the 'Bavarian Sea'

Nature can also be experienced up close during a guided adventure boat tour to the delta of the Tiroler Achen. At the edge of the protected nature reserve, visitors gain fascinating insights into how new landforms are created over time. The area is also home to a rich and undisturbed bird population that can often be observed in its natural habitat. Equipped with nets, binocular microscopes and other instruments, participants explore the underwater world together with experienced guides.
